Running, birth classes, and a Floyd Landis sighting?

Running has been going pretty well lately. I'm dealing with my foot/leg issue and shouldn't have any problems getting through the marathon...so that's good. The work is pretty much done. I did my last long run today (16 miles) on the course which helped with my expectations, etc.

Yesterday Merrie and I sat through an 8 hour "birthing class". Yes, 8 hours on one of the most perfect Minnesota fall days we've had in years. I had two comments after it was finished...(1) it could have been cut in half if the same information was not repeated over, and over, and over, (2) the time would have passed much quicker if there was some sort of audience interaction...just my 2 cents, now I'm over it.

Just got a text from my sister Emmy (aka Emmy the Great). Sounds like she had brunch with the controversial former 2006 Tour de France winner...Mr. Floyd Landis. We do not have official confirmation of this rumor as of yet (you know the rule - pictures or it didn't happen). I'll report back when/if this rumor has been confirmed!

I'm in!

The 20 mile run went well...I'm a go for the marathon and am really looking forward to it. I think a PR may be a possibility!

Camp Odayin 5k Post-Race

Well, the 5 K went well this morning. I took 5th or 6th overall, and had relatively no pain in my leg/ankle/foot. The new shoes worked! Looking forward to the 20 miler tomorrow, which will be the real decision maker regarding the TC Marathon.

Camp Odayin 5k Pre-Race

This morning is the Camp Odayin 5k race. The plan is to race the 5k then jog the course again to get my 6 miles in...this should work out well, since Merrie (and baby) are planning to walk the 5k as well, and I'll be able to catch back up to them.

Hopefully this goes well, as I have a 20 mile run scheduled for tomorrow. The nice thing is that my "re-enforcements" arrived last night...new shoes (15% off at shoes.com) that I know fit me right. I'm guessing that part of my leg issue could be the new brand of shoes I purchased a couple of months back....

Ironman Wisconsin 2008 - A Spectator's Perspective

Team Sjogren (Mom, Dad, Merrie, Em and I) took in Ironman Wisconsin 2008 this past weekend. It was really fun to finally just WATCH an Ironman. In the end, we saw Chris McDonald and Hillary Biscay take the titles.

It was a great race!Take a look at the photo's I took on the slideshow to the right!

Blog Format Change

As you can see, I've changed (downgraded) the blog a bit. There's the good and the bad to this change.

Good = Frankly, I wasn't keeping up with it very well and this is much more manageable. I think I'll actually post more in this format anyway.

Bad = In the conversion I lost all of my posts since Ironman Florida 2006. So here's quick recap

  • Lots of local races in 2007,
  • Ironman WI 2007 -- race went ok,
  • Merrie and I found out we're gonna be parents!
  • Ironman AZ 2008 -- race went really bad...strep throat, severe sinus infection, ended up burned and battered after a long day.
  • More local races...

I'm about 3 weeks out from the TC Marathon, and it's gonna be work to get to the finish line. I have some issues going on in my right leg, but I'm soldiering on to give it my best shot. We'll know more after I attempt a 20-mile training run this weekend.
