The Aftermath
I finally made it to the Dr.'s office and the verdict is that I fractured my foot...most likely a stress fracture, as far as we could tell from the X-ray, but we did without the MRI as the treatment would be the same regardless.
As you can see from the picture above, I'm not in an aircast from the knee down. It's super uncomfortable and a bit of a hassle, but this is what I'll be sporting for the next 4-6 weeks. If my foot isn't showing any improvement after that time, I'll be in for an MRI and most likely have to be put into a real cast to make sure it heals.
On the bright side, I'd rather have to deal with this now rather than in April. It's forcing me to take a break from any sort of working out, but I'm getting more and more anxious to get on my bike....or even in the pool!

New Link
If you take a look at the listing on the right, you'll see that I've added a link to a blog "Project 140.6". This is where I'll be posting updates specific to my preparation for Ironman Wisconsin 2010.

The Day After...
Wow! Mer had such a great race. She was looking to run a 3:50 and blew her goal away with a 3:45! I'm so impressed!
I actually got to see Mer (in full flight!) as she passed me with a little over a mile to go. She really looked great...such a strong finish!
It's funny. I was up early this morning watching SportCenter. I was feeling embarrassed about doing myself in yesterday...and then an interview with Brett Favre came on. He was being asked about why he's so good at the 2-minute drill (based on last week's game winning pass). He responded quickly, correcting the interviewer about how for every successful game winning throw he has had, that there have been several that ended poorly (interceptions, incompletes, fumbles, sacks, etc.). His ending quote made a lot of sense to me "if you play the game long enough, just about everything will eventually happen...but the end of the game is not the time to hesitate, you just have to go for it!".
Well, I guess that goes for me. I've run 9 marathons now...I've had good days and bad days. Yesterday was a debacle, but I'm glad I finished and glad that I left it all out there. In the end, I was so happy to see my wife have a great day.
Did you not know that in a race all runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize. - 1 Corinthians 9:24
Congrats Mer, and all the other runners yesterday.

TC Marathon Eve
It's the night before the TC Marathon, and what a day it's been! It's so great to have family and friends that support both Merrie and I in our endeavors.
My whole family has come up to see us race. Poor Emmy had to sit through quite the delay at ORD in order to make it up here Friday night. They make every effort to be at our races (as do many of you!) and it's so nice to have that support. We brag about it all the time and tell our friends to "just look for the bright orange TEAM SJOGREN t-shirts"!
On top of that, tonight we had several friends stop by to wish us luck during our pasta dinner. Hector and Michelle, Angela and Trish (who is running the 10 mile) all stopped by to say hello and wish us luck. We had quite the crowd at the condo tonight! I think Elsa was show-boating behind her new toy stroller...walking from one end of the room to the other.
I know many of you have been getting messages from Merrie regarding her efforts to raise support for Eden. Mer's not been feeling great today (or for that matter, the entier last week), but she hasn't let it get her down. She is such a trooper. I'm sure she'll have a great race...quite frankly, the work she's already done (and money she's raised) has already made her a Boston Qualifier in my book!
So thanks to everyone for all of their support! I realize we often get caught up in the excitement of the race, to make the statement...but we really, REALLY appreciate everything and look forward to seeing (and spending more time!) with you all soon.

Resurrection
I'm pulling this TeamSjogren site out of hibernation to make an annoucement:
I've officially began training for Ironman Wisconsin.......2010.
2009 has not been much of a season with me only competing in 2 events to date (GW Du & Grandma's Marathon). I still have the TC Marathon on the schedule, but training has been less than ideal -- that is, if you call it training.
I'm still hatching my plan for the assualt on IM Wisconsin next year, but I can tell you I've been reading quite a bit of material and have some interesting ideas to put into place.
My goal is to provide and update at least once weekly include a running update of my training log...this should help serve my purpose of keeping me on track, while also documenting some improvement.
